Twins trade:
- 1B Jose Abreu ($13M / $13M / $13M)
- SS CJ Abrams
- SP Grayson Rodriguez
- 2021 Draft picks (3rd & 4th round)
Red Sox trade:
- 2B/RF Whit Merrifield ($5M / $6.75M / $2.75M / $10.5M TO)
- 1B/3B Yuli Gurriel ($8M)
- RP Daniel Hudson ($.5M)
- $.5M in cap (2020)
This is a big one no doubt and I certainly gave up some key prospects in this one. However, it enabled me to add 2 big time MLB bats with both players having some position versatility. Whit has a pretty reasonable contract and Yuli I could extend this offseason. Hudson will serve as a nice bullpen piece addition. Plus, I had to find a way to consolidate Abreu's big contract into several other pieces I could use to fill out my roster. Since taking over the Twins I have made it a goal to quickly turn them around into a competitive team and this is another deal in my pursuit to make a statement. Again, adding prospects like Austin Martin and Bobby Miller in this years draft plus having Joey Bart coming close to being a big leaguer makes losing Abrams and Rodriguez palatable.
