This post is intended to resolve the years of experience change that occurred mid-season. I think we can all agree it would have been better done in the offseason, but we are where we are. After 24 hours, I'll repost this into the league rules section.
Some debate and discussion on this rule is welcome, however I want to limit the parameters of the discussion. Unless someone uncovers a gaping flaw, this is the comp system we will implement. If I hear from 16+ GMs (i.e. a majority of the league) that we would have been better off leaving experience years wrong, I'll consider rolling some of the changed players back.
Years of experience update:
First, years of experience will remain as they currently are in the spreadsheet (i.e. fixed & aligned to current league rule-set)
Second, each team with affected players (i.e. all teams) will receive the following:
1. An additional year of arbitration to be applied to any single player on your roster affected by the change. Salary for this year will be calculated based on the arbitration schedule existing at the time of the off-season.
- Players going from (6) to (7-8) are ineligible for this as they would have hit FA anyways
- Also players going from year (0) to year (1) are ineligible as they tripped rookie limits in 2019
2. One additional RFA tag, eligible to be used on an affected player in the 2019/20, 2020/21 or 2021/22 off-season. This tag will have an automatic 20% salary discount regardless of the # of other RFA tags utilized in that off-season.
3. $0.5M of additional 2020 cap space for each affected player
