Break it down like this:
Mallex vs. Swanson - I like Swanson better but someone could certainly argue in favor of Mallex. If the two were traded straight up, I don't think anyone would bat an eye lash.
The rest is a lot of lipstick on a pig. It's definitely not an overpay.
Estrada and Ford are MLB reserve types. They don't project as MLB full time regular players (I'm not saying that just because they are Yankees). Sure they are the types of guys that could get more time on a lousy MLB team, but their skillsets don't project full time players.
I don't place a particularly high value on a round 5 draft pick either considering we can add 5 prospects a week of similar caliber with waiver claims.
Now Velasquez is a prospect. You might even say a prospect in the mold that I chase in this league. I'm not particularly high on him but someone else can like his high risk, high reward profile more than me so I can't call him lipstick.
But if you object to the original trade, you need to ask yourself here if Velasquez the prospect plus filler makes an equitable offer.
The braves offer is BETTER than the Red Sox offer. I just don't think it is considerably better. I personally don't think it is near equal value.
I'm sensitive to any vetoed trades so seeing a replacement trade that strikes me as a lot of lipstick is worth putting my thoughts on the record.

I would agree. Personally I like Swanson a lot more than I do malex, premium position and lineup guarantee and all. Robertson is the same mold as Thairo imo, Thairo has better defense and better overall contact grades. I don’t like defending my trades at all. I think Velazquez, Ford and a 5th is worth far more than Eguy and 3m. Although I can see how some might feel it’s not as much an overpay as I think it may be.
Up for discussion.

I like Mallex and will happily take him back. Can't believe Alex shuffled him along so quickly. SB dude, SB.
