OAK Trades: RF Bryce Harper FA (FA) $45m x8 $36m cap 2019 $3m cap 2020
CLE Trades: RP Yusmeiro Petit OAK $5.5m/$5.5mTO 1B Ryan Zimmerman WSH (14) $1.1m LF Jose Pirela CWS (3) $1m 1B Jose Osuna PIT (2) $.5m/$1m OF Brandon Guyer CWS (FA) $.5m/$.5m SS Kevin Merrell OAK (PP) SS Alexander Campos OAK (PP) C Mario Feliciano MIL (PP) 2B Riley Mahan MIA (PP) C Deon Stafford PIT (PP) CLE 2020 6th CLE 2020 7th
Less cap and more established players. Petit had a 3.0era last year, Zimmerman battled injuries last year but is only a year removed from an all star appearance, Pirela was a bit down last year but hit .288 the year before, Osunas only 26 and is fighting for more playing time this year, and guyer is a solid role player that gets enough opportunity. If this isn’t more value than Machados deal then I’ll probably just call it a night and go to bed ✌🏻

Don't be afraid of the repeat. It's not the Purge or anything (well, maybe, looking at this deal) get over it, and uh, we uhm, left the light on, is he really coming? Well, door's unlocked, help yourself when you get here.

It's always a good look to try and describe how players have even the slightest of value. You could have signed Zimmerman instead of throwing a touchdown to sign and trade Harper for virtually nothing.
Veto, try again, with meaning.

Approve (1-3)
I'm likely alone here but we've seen huge contracts get traded for shit before and not blink an eye. Machado, Cano, Greinke, Price (among others) all got traded for nothing and most of them were paid off for the current year as well. Don't know why an exception is made for Harper when he costs $15-20M more than any of those guys and the future years of that contract are much worse knowing they can't be paid off.
The assets coming back to OAK lack value and aren't worth $33M but Harper's contract is cancerous and obviously hurts any potential return that Harper might've gotten him. I am 100% certain that that money could've netted him something better than a bunch of depth guys (at best) but I can't imagine the market for a $45M Harper is much better than that anyway.
Chalk it up to a bad estimation by OAK thinking they could sign and trade a huge deal like that, but this deal has been blown way out of proportion for something we've seen happen a handful of times before.

Veto for the reasons stated above. If there were no cash involved I would probably approve. $36M in cash warrants a better return.
